"I'm waiting for the man"
Clearly it is time for an update.Work is a bit bleh. But it pays. And I'm not going as crazy as I thought I would be. Good.
I'm reading Reefer Madness: Sex, Drugs, and Cheap Labor in the American Black Market by Eric Schossler and A People's History of the United States (The Twentieth Century) by Howard Zinn. I have several novels I've been meaning to read, but right now my History major half has taken over. John Steinback and Ernest Hemingway will just have to wait.
I went to Fort Worth last night to hang out with 2 of my 5 favorite TCU girls, Alicia and Alex (Leslie Kate and Sarah were not there, tear). Met two of their friends. It was lovely. We walked and talked and laughed and Alicia and I quoted Dane Cook and random movies. It was nice.
Thomas and I have decided that going to Wal-Mart around 11PM and buying Chocolate Milk and snacks (including, but not limited to, Cheddar Bunnies, Crispy Wheat Things with Zesty Spices, Ben & Jerry's, and roasted peanuts) and then going to random Carroll Campuses and ingesting said products is some of the most fun ever. I still despise Wal-Mart's evilness, but I'm a night person and there's nothing else open. Damn you Target, closing at 9PM!
Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, The Brian Jonestown Massacre, and The Dandy Warhols are some of the best recent rock bands. Jefferson Airplane, The Who, The Beatles, and The Velvet Underground are some of the best from the 1960s. I truly enjoy all the reading and music listening I've been doing this summer. I Heart my iPod. Though iTunes is taking all my money. Must stop buying music. . .
Tonight is Kate's concert thing that Thomas and I are going to. Tomorrow is the Trivial Pursuit Potluck! (yes, yes, I did come up with that idea. no, I don't take drugs).
Miss Eyer is moving this week. A little sad. I should try to see her before she goes. If that's possible. She sould come to the potluck!
They finally stopped tearing up 1709. This is good. They'll probably rip the whole thing up on Monday. They're supposedly expanding it. Way to be 10 years behind on that one guys.
Pam and I saw The DaVinci Code yesterday. It was very poorly written and the cinematography was a bit horrendous. Tom Hanks was completely wrong for the role of Robert Langdon and I must say, his acting has gone a bit downhill lately. The lines were cheesy and made Star Wars look well written. The adaptation of Sophie's character was insulting and annoying; rather then being a smart, capable, cryptologist who helps to solve the clues and contributes as much as Langdon and Teabing, she was reduced to a superficial airhead. Ridiculous. Langdon's role was changed to be more "marketable" to the American public; he took the opposite point of view of Teabing's ideas, claiming they were nothing but theories and myths, and acted as a devout Catholic. His well story was used to disprove the theories presented in the book and affirm that Christianity is the only correct way. Super annoying, considering it was supposed to be an adaptation of a book that said anything but. Above all, the French and English were made to look ridiculous while the American saved the day and solved all the problems. I give it a C minus. Ron Howard, I want my four dollars back. It was a reminder of the serious problems Hollywood is having coming up with good movies lately. We need another Pulp Fiction to shake things up a bit.
Off to consider washing my car, maybe swim a bit, and read. Yay for pleasure reading and summer.

"You are home"
Lately I’ve been getting into a lot of new and awesome music. The Dandy Warhols, Brian Jonestown Massacre, Louis XIV, The Velvet Underground, Jefferson Airplane, Almost Famous Soundtrack, etc.Listening to it makes my soul smile.
Sometimes I really super wish I had been alive during the 1960s. Mainly for the music/social revolution that was taking place at the time.
Almost Famous is a simply amazing movie (duh). Every time I watch it, I get something new out of it. Tonight, it was different than last time. I think I truly understand it now. The way music speaks to you, lives with you. It’s not describable. It’s a feeling. A buzz. I like it.
Lester Bangs: The only true currency in this bankrupt world if what we share with someone else when we're uncool.
How true Lester. How true.

The Dandy Warhols Love Almost Everybody
New music is nice. Psychadelic rock rules all. No one comes down like The Dandy Warhols Come Down...Last night was lovely. Dinner with an old friend, driving, Death Cab, Braums. Reunion! Thomas Matt Kate Allie Me Dave. Memories. Matt and I staying at Kate's house forever talking about nothing and everything how quaint. I love hanging out with those kids. Last night was the most fun ever.
I can't wait until Arkansas. That state won't know what hit it.
Looked at Boston flights and yay because they look open. Bastille Day in Boston is only the best way to celebrate Bastille Day.
I miss Alex!
I don't want to get up early for work tomorrow (have to be there at 8...ew).
Money is good and employment is good. What am I going to do with these kids for 10 hours?
Let's see... breakfast, TV/morning cartoons, bike riding?, something, lunch, lalala too hot to function, something, swimming?, going to the park?, naptime, something something something.
crap.
I'll bring laser tag. And we'll play hide and go seek. And any ideas are much appreciated.

iPods and Howard Zinn bashing Bush
A grand clip of a Howard Zinn interview on Truthout:
Barsamian: Politicians use history as a kind of mystical element or device. We often hear that the U.S. is called on by history to do certain things in the world.
Zinn: History is always a good entity to call on if you are hesitant to call on God because they both play the same role. They are both abstractions, they both are actually meaningless until you invest them with meaning. I've noticed that President Bush calls on God a lot. I think he's hesitant to call on history because I think the word history throws him. He's not quite sure what to do with it, but he's more familiar with God.
Good shot Howard.
iPods...what is there to say? They're taking over the world. As of the end of the 2005 fiscal year, 28, 233, 000 iPods had been sold. Also, the term "iPod wedding" exists. And not just the term, but the idea as well (Google it if you don't believe me).
However, as Apple has no legal monopoly on MP3 players, I think it is time they started super improving their products to be competetive with other companies.
For starters, I think Apple should expand the color options on the 30 and 60 GB iPods because clearly, they are jealous of the Nanos' opportunity to express itself. To appeal to kids (and thus expand the market) these colors could be based on the many colors of Crayola crayons. New color options could include:
Tickle me Pink (how does your music make you feel?)
Fuzzy Wuzzy Brown (this one could come with a "fur/no fur" option)
Antique Brass (made, with actual antique brass)
Mauvelous (a great color that could help bring back the "we want to be British fad")
All of these options, of course, cost more than the plain white and black.
Also, there should be special "celebrity" editions. P.Diddy, Britany Spears and Paris Hilton edition iPods (one comes covered in "bling," one looks trashy and cheap, one includes a free sex tape [for 18 and up only!], but which goes with who?!?!?!).
To appeal to older listeners, those who are out of the pop culture loop, there could be Margaret Thatcher and Bill Frist editions as well.
